DHAKA, Feb 6, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today made the biometric verification mandatory for corporate SIMs of any mobile operator.
BTRC in a notice gave the directives by changing the previous provisions which would allow the operators to sell corporate SIMs after getting written approval of the authorised person of any organisation.
The telecom regulator made the provision to prevent misuse of corporate SIMs saying that corporate SIMs given to many name-based organisations had been using by terrorists, criminals and extortionists.
These SIMs are also using in illegal voice over internet protocol (VoIP).
Members of law enforcement agencies cannot detect the criminals who are using those SIMs.
According to the new directives, organisations will have to apply in a separate form introduced by BTRC for obtaining corporate SIMs and the authorised person of an organisation would have to give finger print.
Finger print is mandatory for obtaining and replacing corporate SIMs.
Organisations now using corporate SIMs will have to provide information in the dedicated form of the BTRC.
