National Safety Food Day observed in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, Feb 2, 2018, (BSS) – The National Safety Food Day was observed
in the district as elsewhere in the country today here with a call to prevent
food adulteration and ensure safe food for all.

This year’s theme of the day was “Nirapad Khadye Bhorbo Desh-Sobai Miley
Gorbo Sonar Bangladesh” (Let the country be filled with safe food, let all
join hands to build a golden Bangladesh).

Marking the day, the district administration chalked out elaborate
programmes on the directives of the Food Ministry and the Bangladesh Food
Safety Authority (BFSA).

In the morning, a colourful rally led by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam
Chandra Pal was brought out from the premises of District Collectorate
Building that paraded main roads of the district town.

Later, a discussion was also held with additional district magistrate AKM
Sadiqul Islam in the chair.

The DC addressed the meeting as the chief guest and assistant police super
(Headquarters) KN Roy Neyoti, additional deputy commissioner (general)
Muhammad Mizanur Rahman and deputy director of local government section M
Shafiqul Islam were present there as the special guests.

DC Gautam Chandra Pal said safe food is one of the key components of the
sustainable development goals and it is a big challenge of the country’s
people and BSFA would play significant role to achieve the goals by 2030.

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing various
programmes, including ‘Food Safety Act’, and forming of BFSA considering the
public health, the DC added.

The function was also addressed, among others, by district fisheries
officer Abdud Dayan, district controller of food Amzad Hossain, district
marketing officer Shah Moazzem Hossain, journalist Sarker M Shahiduzzaman.

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for overcoming all
problems at every level including ensuring food production processing,
import, supply and making to get nutritious and safe food.

They also put emphasis on creating much awareness among the people about
food adulteration as it is a threat to human health, and it may cause long
term effect in the human body.

A large number of people including district level officials, employees of
the DC office, social workers and journalists of print and electronic medic
took part in the programmes.
