President appoints Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain as chief justice

DHAKA, Feb 2, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today appointed Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, a judge of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division, as the 22nd chief justice of Bangladesh.

“The oath-taking ceremony of the new chief justice will be held at Bangabhaban at 7 pm tomorrow (Saturday),” President’s Press Secretary Mohammad Joynal Abedin said here this afternoon.

The post of the chief justice fell vacant as the immediate past Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha resigned on November 10 last year after he went on leave on health ground in October.

Justice Md Abdul Wahhab Miah, the senior most judge of the appellate division, has been performing the function as the chief justice from October 3 last year.
