PM’s German visit to be a milestone: Quader

DHAKA, Feb 05, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today expressed his optimism that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s forthcoming visit to Germany, as her first foreign tour after forming government for the third straight term, would be a milestone in further strengthening the existing bilateral relations.

“Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s meeting at the upcoming Munich Security Conference could open up new doors of possibilities,” he said when German Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Fahrenholtz paid a courtesy call on him at his secretariat office, according to a press release.

The conference will take place in Munich from February 15 to 17, 2019.

Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to seek German cooperation in implementation of the mega projects and call for more German investments in Bangladesh in the meeting with Merkel at the conference.

The minister expressed his gratitude to German government and its people for extending support to the newly formed government in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the German ambassador lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and said Bangladesh is moving ahead towards development.

He said the German government wants to extend cooperation in consolidating good governance, strengthening principles of democracy and taking ahead rule of law in Bangladesh.

Fahrenholtz stressed on strengthening existing bilateral relations side by side developing the relations between Awami League and political parties of Germany.

Awami League’s foreign affairs sub-committee member AK Faiyazul Haque Raju was present on the occasion.
