National Library Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Feb 4, 2019 (BSS) – National Library Day will be observed tomorrow throughout the country for the second time in a befitting manner.

All preparations have been taken for observing the National Library Day with the slogan of “Read the book in the library for making an enlightened person.”

The day is going to be observed with a view to eliminating illiteracy from society and creating educational opportunity, as well as a liberal and democratic society.

A press conference was held today at the Central Public Library auditorium at Shahbagh to brief journalists about the Day.

A colourful rally will be brought out from Shahbag which will parade important streets on Dhaka University campus, Shaheed Minar and will end at the national public library premises. It will be inaugurated by State Minister for culturural Affairs KM Khalid at 9 am tomorrow.

Later, a discussion programme will be held at Shawkat Osman auditorium of the public library at 4 pm where Planning Minister MA Mannan will be present as the chief guest and State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will be special guest.

At the press briefing, state minister K M Khalid said that Bangladesh is now going ahead under the worthy leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Bangladesh is going ahead under the worthy leadership of Sheikh Hasina. Vision 2030 and 2041 will be realised if the ruling government remains in power. It’s important to make a cultural, non-communal and humanitarian nation along with economic development.”

He also declared that one of the objectives of the ruling government is to digitalize all libraries.

In October 2017, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced February 5 as Library Day at a cabinet meeting.

The celebrations of the day will end with different colourful cultural events.
