Experts for technology-based food management for safe food

RANGPUR, Feb 2, 2019 (BSS) – Officials and experts at a post-rally
discussion today stressed on launching of modern technology-based food
management system along with enhancing social awareness to ensure safer food
for all citizens.

The observations came at the discussion jointly organised by the district
administration and Department of Food at Deputy Commissioner’s conference
room in observance of the National Food Safety Day- 2019.

Earlier, led by Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib, a rally participated by
officials of different government, non-governmental and human rights’
organisations, teachers, students and common people, was brought out on the
city streets.

Chairman of Rangpur District Council Advocate Chhafia Khanom addressed the
discussion as the chief guest with Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul
Amin Mian in the chair.

District Controller of Food Anirban Mohanta, President of Rangpur unit of
the Consumers Association of Bangladesh Abdur Rahman and Assistant Director
of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection for Rangpur Afsana
Pervin addressed as special guests.

In her presentation, Afsana Pervin narrated various steps taken by the
government for proper enforcement the ‘Safe Food Act 2013′ and Consumers’
Rights Protection Act, 2009 to ensure rights of the common consumers to safe
food.

“As a result of enacting the acts and their implementation, the common
consumers have already started getting huge benefits and becoming more aware
of their rights to getting pure food and other products,” she added.

The speakers put maximum importance on creating social awareness for
ensuring strict enforcement of the ‘Safe Food Act 2013′ and Consumers’ Right
Protection Act, 2009 to free the consumers from food poisoning, contamination
and related diseases.

They urged business community people, traders and consumers to become aware
of severe consequences of supply, sale and consumption of adulterated and
poisonous foods while running food businesses to save consumers from health
hazards.

The chief guest suggested all concerned for establishing a modern
technology-based food management system for ensuring production, marketing
and consumption of safer foods to protect public health and save human lives.
