Farhad, Rossouw take Rangpur Riders on top in BPL

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 29,2019 (BSS)- It was an all-round performance came from
defending champions Rangpur Riders that helped them earn an emphatic six-
wicket victory over Rajshahi Kings in the 36th match of Bangladesh Premier
League T20 held at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing a winning target of 142 runs set by Rajshahi, Rangpur
comfortable reached the destination making 145 runs with eight balls to
spare.

Rangpur lost both their opener – Alex Hales (16) and Chris Gayle (10)
early, but Rilee Rossouw and AB de Villers steadied the innings, contributing
71 runs for the third wicket stand to take Rangpur closer to the victory.

Rossouw composed a magnificent 43 balls off 55 runs hitting five
boundaries and two over boundaries while AB de Villers supported him with 27-
ball off 37 runs with the help of one boundary and three over boundaries.

Kamrul Islam, Qais Ahmad, Mehidy Hasan and Arafat Sunny got one wicket
of Rangpur each.

Farhad Reza of Rangpur Riders was named the player of the match.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, Rajshahi Kings posted a
decent total of 141 for 8 from their allotted 20 overs.

Rajshahi Kings suffered early batting jolt as they lost both their
openers — Soumya Sarkar (14) and Johnson Charles (12)– within 3.2 overs.

Laurie Evans top scored for Rajshahi making 31-ball off 35 runs with the
help of four boundaries while Qais Ahmad contributed 20-ball off 22 runs with
the help of one boundary and twoover boundaries. The Rajshahi batsmen were
hardly comfortable against the sharp bowling display by the Rangpur Riders
bowlers and failed to build any effective partnership.

Fazle Mahmud (18) and Christiaan Jonker (16) were the notable scorers for
Rajshahi.

Farhad Reza was the most successful bowlers as he claimed three
Rajshahi’s wickets conceding 30 runs. He was well supported by Shahidul Islam
and Nazmul Islam who both picked up two wickets each giving away 28 and 39
runs respectively.
With this win, Rangpur Riders moved top of the table with 14 points from
11 matches while Rajshahi Kings remained at their previous credit of 10
points playing the same number of outings.
