Ensure quality education at private varsities: President

DHAKA, Jan 22, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the private university authorities to take pragmatic steps in ensuring quality higher studies along with increasing the rate of higher education in Bangladesh.

“There is no alternative to ensuring the quality in higher studies”, the President told a delegation of the Association of Private Universities of Bangladesh (APUB) that called on him at Bangabhaban. The delegation was led by APUB chairman Sheikh Kabir Hossain.

“The President has directed the private university authorities to shun the attitude to do business with education and ensure world-standard quality education as a part of development tools,” President’s Press Secretary M Joynal Abedin told BSS.

The President categorically urged the authorities concerned, specially the education ministry, University Grants Commission (UGC) and private universities, to make joint efforts to resolve the existing problems in the university education and prepare the students for the global competition.

The President was apprised by the APUB leaders of overall activities of their universities, including recent infrastructural development, academic activities, as well as different problems and future plans.

The delegation requested the President to take necessary steps to update the private university act to meet the need of present time.
