AL leader Nurul Alam laid to rest with state honour

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 28, 2019 (BSS) – Elderly politician, former member of
parliament and President of Chattogram north district Awami League (AL) Nurul
Alam Chowdhury was buried today at his family graveyard with full state
honour this evening.

He was laid to the eternal rest after 3rd Namaz-e-Janaza at Motiur Rahman
Primary School playground in Fatikchari upazila.

Thousands of people irrespective of political affiliation, leaders of
different professional, socio cultural bodies attended his 1st namaz-e-janaza
held at city’s Jamiatul Falah premises around 10 am today.

The second Janaza was held at Fatikchari College ground after Zuhr prayers.

Political leaders including AL Presidium Member Engineer Mosharrf Hossain,
MP, City Mayor and General Secretary of City AL A J M Nasir Uddin, ABM Fazle
Karim Chowdhury, MP, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury,MP, Mahfuzur Rahman Mita, MP,
Nazibul Bashar Maizbhandari MP, Jubo League President Omar Faruk Chowdhury,
Chattogram south district AL President Moslem Uddin Ahmed, Chattogram
Development Authority Chairman Abdus Salam, Chattogram Zilla Parisad Chairman
MA Salam, Chattogram South district AL General Secretary Mofizur Rahman,
officials of Chattogram district Administration, local elites, Chattogram
Metropolitan and district police, among hundreds of people, paid their
respective tributes to veteran parliamentarian by placing wreaths at his
coffin and participated the last janaza.

Most of the areas of Fatikchari upazila are almost covered with the banners
of condolences while black flags are hoisted on roads, highways and by roads
mourning the death of such a devoted politicians.

Chowdhury was elected two time member of the parliament in 1973 and 1986
from Fatikchari constituency.

He was appointed as Bangladesh Ambassador to Oman in 2010. The student of
first batch of Chattogram University was also qualified in Bangladesh Civil
Service in 1973.

He suffered immense torture in jail by the then Mostak government as he
strongly protested the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheik Mujibur Rahman and his family members in 15 August 1975.

Nurul Alam Chowdhury died of different ailments at Prakview Hospital in the
port city on Sunday.
