Business leaders demand one stage VAT for edible oil

DHAKA, Jan 28, 2019 (BSS) – Business leaders today demanded the
government to introduce one stage Value Added Tax (VAT) in importing edible
oil.

They came up with the demand at a seminar on ‘Role of Tariff Commission
for Protecting the Interest of Domestic Industry and Creating Awareness
Regarding VAT’ in the capital.

Bangladesh Tariff Commission and Bangladesh Vegetable Oil Refiners’ and
Vanaspati Manufacturers’ Association (BVORVMA) jointly organised the seminar.

Chaired by BVORVMA president Mostafa Kamal, the seminar was addressed,
among others, by Tariff Commission members Sheikh Abdul Mannan and Shah M Abu
Raihan Al Beruni.

Mostafa Kamal, also the chairman of the Meghna Group of Industries, said
the business community wants only one stage VAT as they can pay their VAT
easily.

Abdul Mannan said the Tariff Commission always recommends a logical VAT
rate by taking opinion from the business community.

“We want cooperation from the business community. Then, we can resolve
any problem easily,” he added.
