Seminar on SN Bose held at DU

DHAKA, Jan 27, 2019 (BSS) – With a call for conducting more research on
the field of science and technology, a daylong seminar on Satyendra Nath Bose
was held today at Dhaka University campus.

The Bose Centre for Advanced Study and Research in Natural Sciences of DU
organised the seminar marking the 125th birth anniversary of renowned
scientist Professor Satyendra Nath Bose.

Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman addressed the programme as
the chief guest at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the DU.

Prof Akhtaruzzaman stressed the need for conducting joint collaborative
research on science and technology by the teachers and students to make
Bangladesh a prosperous country.

“Prof Satyendra Nath Bose is best known for his work on quantum mechanics.
He also made outstanding contributions to the foundation of Bose-Einstein
Statistics,” the VC said.

Prof SN Bose made Dhaka University known to the world only within few
years of its establishment in 1921, the VC mentioned.

The renowned scientist Bose had a wide range of interest in varied fields
including physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology. He was one of the
founding faculty members of DU Physics Department, the VC pointed out.

He urged the young generation to conduct scientific research by following
the ideal of late Prof SN Bose.

Director of Bose Centre Prof Dr Supriya Saha presided over the function
while Pro-VC (Administration) Prof Dr Muhammad Samad, Treasurer Prof Dr Md
Kamal Uddin and Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof Dr Mohammed Abdul Aziz
addressed it as special guests.

Prof of DU Physics Department Dr Md Kamrul Hassan delivered key-note
speech. Prof of the Department of Theoretical Physics Dr Arshad Momen,
Retired Prof of the Department of Mathematics of Rajshahi University Dr
Subrata Majumdar and UGC Prof of the Department of Chemistry of DU Dr M
Muhibur Rahman also addressed the function.

Prof SN Bose was born on January 1, 1894 and died on February 4, 1974.
