‘Militancy elimination needs concerted effort of all’

RAJSHAHI, Jan 25, 2019 (BSS)-Speakers at an experience sharing meeting
here mentioned concerted efforts of all government and non-government
entities concerned have become indispensable to maintain peace and harmony
everywhere in society together with freeing it from all sorts of crimes
including drug-addiction and militancy.

They observed that the present government under the dynamic leadership of
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is determined to combat terrorism and extremism
like crimes. So, all quarters should come forward and work together to
supplement the government endeavor.

The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB) organized the meeting in association
with Canada Fund for Local Initiative Programme at Brac Learning Centre in
the city on Thursday afternoon.

High Commissioner of Canada in Bangladesh Benoit Prefontaine and its
Councilor (Commercial) Corinne Petrisor addressed the meeting as the chief
and special guests respectively with THPB Country Director Dr Badiul Alam
Majumdar in the chair.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam, Deputy Director
of Department of Narcotics Control Lutfor Rahman, Paba Upazila Parishad Vice-
chairman Ashraful Haque, Ward Councilor of Rajshahi City Corporation Md
Kamruzzaman, THPB Regional Coordinator Shashanka Baran Roy and its Area
Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul also spoke.

High Commissioner Benoit Prefontaine told the meeting that the Canadian
support will continue to make the Bangladeshi people aware about combating
drug addiction and extremism.

He said that the role of youths and other volunteers is very important
towards ensuring and maintaining peace and harmony in society for the sake of
its substantial and sustainable development.

Badiul Alam Majumdar says all-out support from the community is very
important to free the society from all sorts of crimes including militancy,
terrorism and drug-addiction.

He said the nation would get rid of conflicts and confusion if the people
as well as the state machineries take a positive approach to establish peace
and amity from their own position.

Various issues like communal harmony, right to information for creating
awareness, prevention of violence against women and quality improvement in
primary education were discussed elaborately in the meeting.

More than 70 people comprising government officials, political and
professional leaders, volunteers, peace messengers, cultural activists,
members of the civil society and journalists were present at the meeting.
