4 female army officers made battalion commanding officers

DHAKA, Jan 24, 2019 (BSS) – Four female army officers of Bangladesh Army, who were newly promoted to lieutenant colonel rank from major rank, have been made battalion commanding officers as fighting force for the first time in the country creating a new chapter in the history of the army.

The four female army officers are Lieutenant Colonel Sanjida Hossain, artillery; Lieutenant Colonel Syeda Nazia Royhan, artillery; Lieutenant Colonel Farhana Afrin, artillery; and Lieutenant Colonel Sarah Amir, engineers, ISPR Assistant Director Md Noor Islam told BSS tonight.

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed today adorned with rank badges of lieutenant colonel rank to the four female officers of the long course at the army headquarters, according to an ISPR press release.

As a part of the Prime Minister’s commitment to women empowerment, women officers are being appointed regularly in the long courses of Bangladesh Army since 2000.
