Mass media bridging gap between government and people: Railway Minister

RANGPUR, Jan 24, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan today said the country’s mass media is playing a very important role in bridging the gap between government and common people.

“I seek cooperation of the mass media in discharging my responsibilities as the Railways Minister properly with utmost sincerity and honesty,” Sujan said at a function arranged to accord reception to him in Panchagarh town today.

Panchagarh Press Club organised the reception at its office in the sub-Himalayan district town with its President Shafikul Alam in the chair.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) of Panchagarh Md Golam Azam, General Secretary of Panchagarh district Awami League and Sadar Upazila Chairman Anwar Sadat Samrat, Vice-president of Panchagarh Chamber Mehedi Hassan Khan Babla, journalist Shahidul Islam Shahid, among others, addressed.

The minister said there is no compromise with the spirit of the War of Liberation, independence and sovereignty of the country.

“The killers turned the country into a nonfunctional state after assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members on August 15, 1975,” he said.

After coming to power under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Awami League (AL) has restored the spirit of the War of Liberation War, he said.

The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps to ensure welfare of the journalists.

Earlier today, the Railways Minister visited Panchagarh Rail Station and addressed a civic gathering there saying that the BNP regime pushed Bangladesh Railway towards ruination.

The minister directed officials and employees of Bangladesh Railway to refrain from all sorts of corruptions and irregularities and become attentive to properly serve common people as public servants.

General Manger for Western Zone of Bangladesh Railway Khondker Shahidul Islam, its Chief Engineer Afzal Hossain and Divisional Railway Manager Mizanur Rahman, Superintendent of Police for Panchagarh Gias Uddin Ahmed, were present.
