RANGPUR, Jan 23, 2019 (BSS) – Health experts at an orientation workshop
have stressed on strengthening normal delivery facilities at union level
health facilities round the clock to further reduce the maternal and neonatal
mortality rates.
The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Unit of the Directorate of
Family Planning organised the workshop on “Strengthening of full-time normal
delivery facilities at Union Health and Family Welfare Centres (UHFWCs)” at
Bir Muktijoddha Tipu Munshi auditorium in Kawnia upazila here on Tuesday.
One-hundred participants, including public representatives, physicians,
officials and employees of the Departments of Family Planning and Health,
Kawnia Upazila Health Complex, UHFWCs and NGO representatives took part.
Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib attended the event as the chief guest
with Kawnia Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Nazia Sultana in the chair.
Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam, Deputy Director of the Department
of Family Planning Dr Sheikh Md Saidul Islam, Kawnia Upazila Chairman
Mahfuzar Rahman Mithu addressed as special guests.
President of Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr Delwar
Hossain, Programme Manager (Support Service and Coordination) of the MCH
Services Unit Dr ABM Shamsuddin Ahmed, Upazila Health and Family Planning
Officer Dr Asif Ferdous, Medical Officer of the Maternity and Child Welfare
Centre Dr Naznin Hossain, spoke.
The speakers said Bangladesh has achieved laudable successes in
improving all health indexes, including reduction in the maternal and
neonatal mortality rates, on its way to achieve all set targets of the
sustainable development goals.
The Civil Surgeon put emphasis on strengthening overall managements in
the UHFWCs, Upazila Health Complexes and other rural health facilities to
ensure normal delivery of pregnant mothers.
The chief guest stressed on sensitising the rural people on normal
delivery for ensuring sound health of mothers and infants through availing
health services timely at grassroots level health facilities.
“The authorities concerned should take adequate steps to ensure normal
delivery round the clock at all rural health facilities to ultimately bring
the maternal, neonatal and infant mortality rates to the zero level for
building a healthier nation,” he said.
