Ensuring rights of disabled for development stressed

RANGPUR, Jan 23, 2019 (BSS) – Ensuring rights of the persons with disabilities through proper implementation of the Disabled People’s Rights Protection Act- 2013 is crucial for their development and mainstreaming in the society.

Government officials and leaders of different organisations working for welfare of the physically challenged people expressed the views on Tuesday afternoon at an orientation workshop held at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city.

The Rangdhanu District Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha organised the district level orientation workshop with assistance of Handicap International (Humanity and Inclusion) Bangladesh and funding of the Ukaid.

The district level government and NGO officials and executives, Upazila Social Service Officers, leaders of different Disabled People’s Organisations from all eight upazilas in the district and journalists participated.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir attended the workshop as the chief guest with President of Rangdhanu District Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha Saidar Rahman in the chair.

Additional Superintendent of Police Abu Maruf Hasan, Additional Civil Surgeon Dr Kaniz Sabiha, District Women Affairs Officer Kawser Pervin, Additional District Education Officer Sabrina Dilruba and Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Development Alamgir Hossain Kaderi, among others, addressed.

General Secretary of Rangdhanu District Protibondhi Adhikar Sangstha Hasanur Rahman delivered presentation on the Disabled People’s Rights Protection Act-2013 and provided suggestions on advocacy policies and strategies for its proper implementation. In the open discussion session, the speakers stressed on taking sufficient measures by the authorities concerned to ensure constitutionally recognised legal rights of the disabled persons and provide supports and protections to them everywhere.

Dr Kaniz said disabled persons could equally contribute to the nation building activities like common people if they were provided with proper care and assistance to make them able through education, training and other facilities by ensuring their legal rights.

Abu Maruf Hasan stressed on taking adequate steps so that the disabled persons did not remain uncared and deprived of legal rights and assisting them to flourish their latent talents and abilities to lead normal life without depending on mercy of the others.

The chief guest stressed on for proper implementation of the Disabled People’s Rights Protection Act-2013 to ensure rights and protections of the disabled persons to turn them into worthy human resources for their development and mainstreaming in the society.
