DHAKA, Jan 21, 2019 (BSS) – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in separate drives has found 40 percent of doctors absent in 11 government hospitals and healthcare centers in eight districts across the country.

As per the directive of ACC Director General (admin) Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, 11 enforcement teams of the ACC conducted the drives in the 11 hospitals, including three in the capital and eight in different districts, simultaneously from 9 am to 2 pm today across the country, said an ACC press release here.

“A total of 92 doctors out of 230 were found absent in 11 hospitals, 40 percent of the total number,” the release added.

The ACC teams also found 81 doctors out of 131 absent in the eight hospitals outside the capital, which is 61.8 percent.

The ACC enforcement teams conducted the drives in eight districts, including Dhaka, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Tangail, Mymensingh, Kushtia and Pabna, on the basis of different complaints received through its hotline ‘106’.

According to the release, an official of Mugda General Hospital in the city has already been sacked as per the ACC recommendation as the official was caught red-handed during taking bribe.

Munir Chowdhury said, “The deterioration in the health sector is saddening. Those who don’t have the spirit of serving the humanity should leave the profession”.

The ACC will take stern action against anyone’s negligence of duties, he said, adding that the health sector of the country will be brought under surveillance of the ACC.
