Khalid urges BIWTC officials to be more skillful

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2018 (BSS) – State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud
Chowdhury toady said officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport
Corporation (BIWTC) should be more cordial and efficient to serve passengers
and ensure smooth movement of vessels.

“Ferry sector is a service-oriented sector. The BIWTC officials should
perform their duty more cordially and efficiently for the passengers of water
vehicles,” said the State Minister while exchanging views with the officials
of BIWTC here.

Khalid Mahmud, also Organising Secretary of ruling Awami League, said the
country is moving forward under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina.

“The achievements of Sheikh Hasina’s government have to be reached to the
doorsteps of the people. So that all have to prove their skill in performing
duties,” he said Shipping Secretary M Abdus Samad and Chairman of BIWTC
Mafizul Haq, among others, addressed the meeting.

The State Minister said, “We have to work being more enthusiastic like our
Prime Minister. For the purpose of development, there will be no political
stand or nepotism and nobody will get any shelter.”

A total of 15,29,000 vehicles carried 1,10,27,000 passengers in the first
six months of 2018-2019 fiscal by 50 ferries on eight naval routes by BIWTC,
the meeting said.

BIWTC procured 19 ferries, four sea tracks, 12 water bus, two passenger
ships and four container ships from the year 2009 to 2018.

Procurement process of 35 more commercial and eight vessels is under
process.
