OIC congratulates Prime Minister at Jeddah

DHAKA, Jan 20, 2019 (BSS) – The OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef bin Ahmad
Al-Othaimeen today congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her
historic victory in the parliamentary election held on December 30, 2018.

The OIC Secretary General also reiterated his hope that under the
leadership of Sheikh Hasina Bangladesh would continue to achieve its path to
peace, development and progress.

The OIC Secretary General made the remarks during his commencement
statement at the OIC Senior Officials meeting at Jeddah, according to a
message received here.

The meeting was arranged in preparation for the 46th Council of Foreign
Ministers (CFM) to be held in the UAE later this year.

He also expressed his felicitations during a call on him by Bangladesh
Foreign Secretary Haque at Jeddah.

In the hour-long discussion, they discussed matters of common OIC interests
and issues of bilateral importance.

Early in the morning, Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque opened
the three-day Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) at the OIC Headquarters in
Jeddah.

Bangladesh being the outgoing Chair of the 45th CFM, organised the last
iteration of the council in Dhaka in 2018.

Foreign Secretary Haque also participated in a consultation meeting at the
Senior Officials’ level – of the member states of the newly formed
Ministerial Ad-Hoc Committee on Accountability regarding gross human rights
violations of the Rohingyas in Myanmar.
