Dhaka takes steps to resolve incident at Kuwait mission: FM

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2019 (BSS) – Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen today said all necessary steps have taken to resolve the problems following vandalism at Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait.

“We have already taken initiatives to solve the problems,” he told BSS over telephone.

“Before the incident, we are talking to authorities concerned of the Kuwait government and officials of companies for solving the problems of expatriate Bangladeshi workers. Kuwait authorities assured us of resolving the problem through paying all due salaries,” he said.

Momen, however, said such incident over the Bangladesh Embassy may hamper labour recruitment in Kuwait.

“But I have directed the Bangladesh ambassador to Kuwait to take all steps so that the incident won’t affect manpower exports to Kuwait.”

The foreign minister said the incident happened when over nearly 400 expatriate Bangladeshi workers held a protest rally yesterday in front of the Bangladesh mission. After holding successful negotiation with companies concerned and authorities, three officials received injuries when they came out from the meeting, he added.

After the attack on the Bangladesh Embassy, Kuwait police arrested 150 expatriate workers, he said adding, “I have directed the ambassador of Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait to take necessary measures for releasing the arrested workers.”
