All-round Sylhet Sixers record second win in BPL

SYLHET, Jan 16,2019 (BSS)- It was an all-round performance came from Sylhet Sixers saw them to record a 27-run victory over defending champions Rangpur Riders in the 18th match of the Bangladesh Premier League T20 held on Wednesday at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Chasing a winning target of 188 runs set by Sylhet, Rangpur found the chase stiff and eventually they were restricted at 160 for 6 in 20 overs.

Rangpur Riders plunged into a deep trouble as they lost their first three top order batsmen inside 11 runs.

However, South African recruit Rilee Rossouw and Mohammad Mithun steadied the innings contributing 89 runs for the fourth wicket stand before pacer Taskin Ahmed struck again on Rangpur’s innings removing set batsman Rossouw.

The left handed batsman Rossouw smashed 32-ball off 58 runs with the help of three boundaries and four over boundaries while Mithun added 29-ball off 35 laced with five boundaries.

Skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (33 n.o) was the other notable scorer.

Taskin Ahmed and Mehedy Hasan were the pick of Sylhet bowlers as they claimed two wickets each conceding 34 and 40runs respectively.

Earlier, opener Liton Das and skipper David Warner hit blistering half centuries helped Sylhet Sixers to amass a challenging total of 187 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs after they were forced to bat first by Rangpur Riders.

The two openers gave Sylhet a good start contributing 73 runs for the opening stand before Benny Howell broke the partnership removing Sabbir Rahman for 20 runs.

Opener Liton Das continued his innings smashing 43-ball off 70-run and during the process he again paired another 56 runs for the second wicket stand with his skipper Warner who blasted 36-ball off 61 runs hitting six boundaries and two over boundaries.

Later, Nicholas Pooran hammered 16-ball off 26 helped Sylhet to set a challenging target for Rangpur.

Pacer Shafiul Islam was the most successful bowler as he claimed three Sylhet’s wickets conceding 31 runs.
