Mushfiq snatches victory for Chittagong in BPL

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2019 (BSS)- Mushfiqur Rahim played a captaincy knock innings helped Chittagong Vikings to earn a four-wicket victory over Chittagong Vikings in the 14th match of the Bangladesh Premier League T20 held on Sunday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur here.

The diminutive batsman Mushfiq scored 41-ball off 75-run as Chittagong chase down the target making 186 with two balls to spare.

Openers Mohammad Shahzad and Cameron Delport gave Vikings a good start contributing 58 runs for the opening stand before Saifuddin broke the partnership removing Delport for 13 runs.

Yasir Ali lasted a little as he trapped leg before wicket of Thisara Perera delivery.

Shahzad and skipper Mushfiqur Rahim kept the score board tricking. Shahzad smashed 27-ball off 46 runs hitting six boundaries and two over boundaries.

Mushfiq led from the front smashed seven boundaries and four over boundaries to take Chittagong closer to the victory before he perished to Saifuddin.

Robbie Frylinck (9n.o) and Nayeem Hasan (1 n.o) completed the remaining formalities for Vikings to remain unbeaten till the end of the innings.

Mohammad Saifuddin was the pick of Victorians bowler as he captured three Chittagong’s wickets conceding 45 runs.

Mushfiqur Rahim of Chittagong was named the player of the match for his match-winning innings.

Earlier, Sri Lankan allrounder Thisara Perera scored a an unbeaten blistering half century saw Comilla Victorians scored a massive total of 184 for 5 from their allotted 20 overs after they were forced to bat first by Chittagong Vikings.

Perera blasted 26-ball off 74 runs hitting three boundaries and eight over boundaries and during the process he shared an unbeaten 98 runs for the sixth wicket stand along with Mohammad Saifuddin who hammered 19-ball off 26-run hitting two boundaries and one over boundary to take Comilla to a commanding position.

Opener Evin Lewis (38) and skipper Imrul Kayes (24) were the other notable scorers for Comilla Victorians.

Khaled Ahmed was the most successful bowler as he claimed three Comilla’s wickets conceding 34 runs.

With this win, Chittagong Vikings secured six points from four matches while Comilla Victorians remained at their previous credit of four points playing the same number of outings.

Tuesday’s matches: Khulna Titans vs Rajshahi Kings (1.30 pm) and Chittagong Vikings vs Sylhet Sixers (6.30 pm) in Sylhet.
