Elderly people to get free treatment: health minister

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid
Maleque today said initiatives would be taken to ensure free medical services
for all elderly people aged above 65 years as per the pledge of Awami League
made in its election manifesto.

“Apart from taking initiatives for setting up cancer hospital at each
division, a 10-bed kidney unit will be set up at all medical college
hospitals and district sadar hospitals,” he said.

The minister was addressing the orientation programme of the first year
students of the Dhaka Medical College (DMC) under the academic session 2018-
19, said a press release.

DMC Principal Professor Dr Abul Kalam Azad presided over function,
addressed, among others, by Sate Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr
Murad Hasan, Health Services Division Secretary Md Asadul Islam and Medical
Education and Family Welfare Division Secretary GM Saleh Uddin.

Zahid Maleque said the government would work to strengthen the people’s
confidence on the country’s health management to reduce the trend of going
abroad for treatment.

The health minister urged the medical students to take care of patients
with utmost sincerity.
