Bangabandhu Homecoming Day observed in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 10, 2019 (BSS)- Chattogram city, north and south districts units of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organizations celebrated the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner here today.

Chattogram city, north and south districts AL chalked out elaborate programmes including placing of wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portraits at all party offices, holding of discussion meetings and milad and doa mahfils.

Leaders of AL and Chhatra League brought out colourful rallies, placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation at the city AL office at Darul Fazal market in the city and arranged discussion on Bangabandhu.

The AL leaders joined a discussion on city’s central Shahid Minar Premises this afternoon. Acting AL president of Chattogram city Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the function while city Mayor and General Secretary of city AL A J M Nasir Uddin addressed it as the guest.

AL leaders, Noyom Uddin Chowdhury, Khurshed Alam Sujan, Advocate Iftekher Saimul Chowdhury and Noman Al Mahmud, among others, addressed the function.

Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury said the independence of Bangladesh would have not got perfection if Bangabandhu had not returned home from Pakistani jail.

“When the then government led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started relentless efforts to fulfill the expectations of the people of newly liberated country, the vested quarter brutally killed him to destroy his dream for establishing Sonar Bangla,” City Mayor Nasir said.

Earlier, the procession ended at the same place after parading different important city streets.

Meanwhile different units of Bangladesh Chhatra League brought out several processions in different areas of the city to mark the day.

Taking part in the discussion, the other speakers put utmost emphasis on disseminating true national history of the Liberation War among the members of the new generations for building Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.

The building of Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla is yet to be finished even after 46 years of Independence and the unfinished task must be completed through united efforts of all people including the young generation, they said.

They also asked for putting their maximum efforts in building a middle income digital Bangladesh through materializing the Vision 2041 as envisioned by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to realize dreams of Bangabandhu and martyrs of the War of Liberation.

Chattogram north and south districts Awami League also organized separate discussion meetings at their respective party offices in the city this evening.

The AL leaders also placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation at their respective party offices led by their presidents Nurul Alam Chowdhury and Muslem Uddin Ahmed.

Pakistani occupation forces arrested the architect of the country’s Independence on March 25, 1971 from his Dhanmondi residence during late night crackdown on the people of Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) and sent him to the then West Pakistan.

On this day (January 10) in 1972, Bangabandhu returned to an Independent country after nine and a half months of captivity in the Pakistani jail which later appeared to be crucial in the subsequent political history of Bangladesh and re-established the spirit and norms of the Liberation War in the country.
