RANGPUR, Jan 10, 2019 (BSS) – Health experts at a meeting here today
stressed on providing Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every baby under the age of
five to increase their disease resistant capacities.
They observed that Vitamin A is very essential for the babies to ensure
their normal growth, reduce death risks and prevent night blindness and other
vision-related problems and corneal abrasion.
Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) organised the orientation and a planning
meeting at city corporation hall room before the National Vitamin A Plus
Campaign (second round)- 2019 to be held on January 19 in the city as
elsewhere in the country.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the meeting as the
chief guest with Chief Medical Officer of RpCC Dr Kamruzzaman Ibne Taz in the
chair.
Divisional Deputy Director (Health) Dr Shahin Ara Haque, Civil Surgeon Dr
Abu Md Zakirul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad,
its Secretary Abu Saleh Md Musa Jongi and Dr Main Uddin addressed the event
as special guests.
Mayor Mostafa urged the parents to ensure Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every
child aged under five for increasing their disease resistant capacities to
build a healthier nation and achieve sustainable development goals.
In his welcome speech, Dr Taz said 594 health workers and volunteers under
supervisions of 66 supervisors and six monitoring officers will provide
Vitamin A Plus Capsules at 297 outreach centres in all 33 wards of the city
from 8 am to 4 pm on the day.
“Some 19,233 babies (six to 11 months) and about 1.07 lakh babies (12 to 59
months) will be administered with one dose of one lakh unit Vitamin A Plus
Blue Capsule and one dose of two lakh unit of Vitamin A Red Capsule each
respectively,” Dr Taz added. Special steps would be taken to ensure
administering of Vitamin A capsules to the under-five babies at the bus
stands, rail stations and other places to make the campaign a complete
success.
Civil Surgeon Dr Islam discussed about the supreme importance of providing
Vitamin A Plus Capsule to every under-five baby and said that vitamin A would
help the babies in preventing various diseases to ensure their normal growth.
City Councilors, health officials, supervisors and volunteers of RpCC were
present.
