DHAKA, Jan 8, 2019 (BSS)- Dhaka Dynamites recorded their second successive victory in the Bangladesh Premier League T20 when they blew Khulna Titans away by 105 runs in fifth match of the tournament held on Tuesday at Shere-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur here.
Chasing a huge winning target of 193 runs set by Dhaka, Khulna Titans found the chase stiff and eventually dismissed at a paltry total of 87 in 13 overs.
It was a massive win for Dhaka Dynamites which will only boost their net run-rate. The victory was set up by their batsmen who recorded the highest total of this season.
Khulna Titans started the chase badly as they slipped 5 for 60 inside 8.3 overs in the face of tight bowling display by Dhaka’s bowlers.
Khulna on the back foot in the beginning and they could not fight back in the match losing wickets in regular intervals.
Opener Junaid Siddique (31), the top scorer of Khulna’s innings, however gave some hope for Khulan but he had very little support from other end.
Skipper Shakib Al Hasan was the pick of Dhaka’s bowler taking three Khulna’s wickets conceding 18 runs. He was well supported by Sunil Narine who bagged two wickets giving away 20 runs.
Zazai of Dhaka Dynamites was named the player of the match for his impressive batting performance.
Earlier, Afghan opener Hazratullah Zazai blasted 36-ball off 57 runs saw Dhaka Dynamites amassed a massive total of 192 for 6 from their allotted 20 overs after they were forced to bat first by Khulna Titans.
Zazai, who smashed three boundaries and five over boundaries during his breezy knock, gave Dhaka a flying start contributing 67 runs for the opening stand along with Sunil Narine (19).
After the departure of Narine for 19, Zazai continued his onslaught sharing another 43-run for the second wicket stand with Rony Talukder who chipped away 28 runs.
Khulna Titans fought back in the match in the middle picking the wickets of Zazai and Shakib but it was Kiren Pollard (27) and Andre Russel (25) who snatched the momentum with their blaze in the middle to take Dhaka to a commanding position.
Paul String and David Wiese shared two Dhaka wickets for 2 and 24 runs respectively.
Earlier Dhaka Dynamites beat Rajshahi Kings by 83 runs while Khulna Titans suffered an eight-run defeat to Rangpur Riders in both their respective opening matches.
