Weather sharply improves in northern districts
RANGPUR, Jan 08, 2018 (BSS) – The weather in the country’s northern
districts sharply improved today following disappearance of fogs amid a sunny
sky, which brings a relief to the common people, officials said.
They said the situation improved due to sharp rise in the maximum
temperatures by eight to 12 degrees Celsius despite further falls in the
minimum temperatures today.
Earlier, the weather deteriorated sharply causing chilling cold when the
gaps between the maximum and minimum temperatures came down to only four to
six degrees Celsius amid fogs during the last couple of days.
In-charge of Rangpur Met Office Mohammad Ali said the minimum
temperature of 4.9 degrees Celsius was recorded today against yesterday’s 7.5
degrees while maximum of 21 degrees (at 3 pm) against yesterday’s 12 degrees
Celsius in Rangpur city.
The minimum temperatures recorded today were 3.2 degrees Celsius against
yesterday’s 5.1 degrees in Dinajpur, 2.9 degrees against yesterday’s 7.2
degrees in Syedpur, 3 degrees against yesterday’s 8.2 degrees in Dimla and
3.1 degrees against yesterday’s 7 degrees Celsius in Rajarhat points in the
sub-Himalayan region.
The average maximum temperature ranged between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius
today against 12 and 15 degrees Celsius yesterday in the region.
“The maximum temperatures ranged between 20 and 23 degrees Celsius
increasing the gap between the minimum and maximum temperatures to 12 to 15
degrees Celsius bringing a relief to people,” Mohammad Ali said.
Following the sharp improvement of weather situation, the common people and
day-labourers have started getting back to their normal activities, including
char areas, crop fields, and the Boro seedlings started getting better
weather to grow up.
Talking to BSS, Horticulture Socialist of the Department of Agriculture
Extension Khandker Md Mesbahul Islam said the winter crops, Boro seedbeds and
Rabi crops will not be affected if the weather continues improving.
He asked farmers to use Sulphur and nitrogen fertilisations with little
gypsum and urea in their Boro seedbeds after appearance of the sun to
overcome cold problems caused in the boro seedbeds during the shivering cold
and foggy weather in recent days.
Meanwhile, vehicular movements and activities in business centres, markets,
hats and bazars, river ports and ferry ghats, bus stations and terminals and
rail stations got full momentum since 9 am today.
The administrations, NGOs, voluntary, socio-cultural organisations, business
entities, banks and affluent people have further intensified the distribution
of warm clothes among the cold-hit distressed people.
Similar reports of improving weather have been received here today from
Kurigram, Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Nilphamari, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh
district.
