BNP’s Shariatpur candidate held over Taka 8 crore recovery case

DHAKA, Jan 4, 2019 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) today detained Mia Nuruddin Ahmed alias Apu, BNP-nominated polls candidate for Shariatpur-3 constituency and former personal assistant of BNP acting secretary general Tarique Rahman, here in connection with a money laundering case.

“A team of RAB arrested Mia Nuruddin Ahmed alias Apu, an accused of a money laundering case with Motijheel police, from United Hospital of Gulshan at 4 pm today,” senior Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) M Mizanur Rahman of RAB media wing told BSS.

He added: “He was found involved in the incident relating to the seizure of Taka 8 crore and several other cheques of around Tk 10 crore from Motijheel City Centre on December 24, 2018.

Earlier on December 25, the RAB detained three people from capital’s Motijheel and Gulshan areas for allegedly distributing money to influence the December 30 Jatiya Sangsad polls and incite violence.
