Traffic, car parking management over Bishwa Ijtema
DHAKA, Jan 8, 2018 (BSS) – Police is set to take special measures ahead of
two phases of Bishwa Ijtema on the bank of river Turag at Tongi scheduled to
be held from January 12-14 and January 19-21 to ease the traffic snarl.
“The following roads — Chandana intersection to Tongi Bridge on the
Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway, Majukhan Bridge to Station Road Over-Bridge on the
Kaliganj-Tongi Highway and Kamarpara Bridge to Monnoo Textile Mill Gate at
Tongi — will need to be barred for vehicles’ plying to make the way
comfortable for Ijtema goers.” said an official release here.
In this regard, vehicles will not be allowed to ply on the entrances of
Niltali Rail Crossing, Kamarpara Bridge, Bhogra Bypass and the measures will
come into effect at 10 pm on January 13 and 10 pm on January 20, the release
said.
No boats can move and anchor from Kamarpara Bridge to Tongi Bridge in the
Turag River from January 9 to 21 for easy moving of devotees.
The boats can use the eastern site of the Tongi Bridge and northern site
of the Kamarpara Bridge for anchoring during the period.
Police also fixed some places for parking of vehicles. Tongi Kaderia
Textile Mill Compound, Meghna Textile Mill, Shafiuddin Sarker Academy, TIC
field, Badre Alam College, Chandana High School field and truck stand of
Joydebpur intersection have been fixed for parking the vehicles coming
through Chandana intersection while open place adjacent to the K-2 (Navy)
cigarette factory at Tongi has been fixed for parking vehicles coming through
Narsingdi-Kaliganj road.
Dhaka bound vehicles coming from different districts have been instructed
to use the Joydebpur intersection, Konabari, Chandra Square, Baipail,
Nabinagar and Amin Bazar roads instead of Joydebpur intersection and Tongi
for entering the capital city from 6 pm on January 11.
Besides, No rickshaw and van except motor cars would be allowed to ply on
the roads from Bastohara to Highway via Tongi Bridge, Station Road Over
Bridge to Tongi Rail Gate and Monno Textile Mill to Kamarpara Bridge from
January 11 to 13 and 18 to 20 to avert traffic jam.
