DHAKA, Dec 31, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today greeted Awami
League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over her landslide victory
in the 11th Jatiya Sangsad election held yesterday.

“This election is the obvious reflection of people’s opinion against
communalism, terrorism and militancy as well as in favour of independence,
liberation struggle and development-progress,” he said in a message to the
Prime Minister.

On behalf of the President, his Secretary Shampad Barua, Military
Secretary Major General Md Sarwar Hossain and Press Secretary Md Joynal
Abedin handed over the message to the Prime Minister at her Ganabhaban this
afternoon.

The head of the state said the 11st Jatiya Sangsad polls will become a
milestone in the history of democracy and development in Bangladesh.

“I would like to express my gratitude and warm congratulations to you for
the landslide victory in the 11st parliamentary polls . . . I am also
congratulating all countrymen including the elected people,” he said.

President Hamid also expressed thanks to all leaders and workers belonging
to all political parties, all concerned of the electoral process and active
cooperation of others concerned for holding the polls in a successful manner.

Referring to country’s historical incidents where the Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was involved in all stages, the President
said, “After long 21 years of the brutal assassination of him (Bangabandhu),
you took charge for materializing the dream of him and the country started
proceeding toward development and progress under your efficient leadership.”

Noting that Bangladesh is now being considered as “a role model of
development”, Abdul Hamid hoped that the nation would celebrate two festivals
– Bangabandhu’s hundred years birth anniversary in 2020 and golden jubilee of
Bangladesh’s Independence in 2021.

The President expressed his hope that the country will be established as a
developed ‘Sonar Bangla’ in line with Bangabandhu’s dream being imbued with
the spirit of Liberation War.

Abdul Hamid wished a sound health and long life of the Prime Minister, the
congratulatory message added.
