Shajahan urges transport workers to run vehicles carefully

DHAKA, Jan 7, 2018 (BSS) – Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan yesterday urged the transport workers to run vehicles with caution and behave well with commuters.

The minister made the call while addressing the triennial general meeting of Dhaka District Light Transport Workers Union at Mahanagar Natyamacha in the city with its President Md Altaf Hossain in the chair, said an official release here.

“The transport sector is a service-oriented sector,” Shajahan said, adding that the transport workers are working for the country’s development.

He also said the government is working to ensure the labours’ welfare of all sectors.

Saying that trade unions are not harmful, the shipping minister observed it helps to resolve problems through negotiation.

No labour union office or terminal was occupied during the tenure of the Awami League (AL) government, Shajahan said, adding that general labours will not be with those who are involved in killing and arsons.

Secretary of the organization Md Mukhlechur Rahman, Inter-District Truck Drivers’ Union President Md Tajul Islam, labour leaders Iqbal Hossain and Kamruzzaman also spoke in the meeting, among others.
