Balloting being held peacefully: IGP
DHAKA, Dec 30, 2018 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwari today said the voting is being held peacefully except some stray incidents across the country in the 11th parliamentary election.
He said this morning after inspecting a polling centre Viqarunnisa Noon School and College at Shiddeswari in the capital city to see its overall voting environment.
“Balloting is being held peacefully except some stray incidents. In some stray incidents, a clash has been taken place in Chattogram, police are being attacked and their two firearms have been looted in Mymensingh, attacks have also been taken at Bhairab and two centres in Noakhali and ballot papers have also been looted in a centre,” he also said.
Regarding Jatiya Oikya Front Chairman Dr Kamal Hossain’s remarks that tense situation is prevailing across the country, he also said, “We have yet to receive any allegation relating to forcibly ousting agents of BNP from the polling centres. Police have been given responsibility to ensure security of the polling agents,” he continued.
“Election will be competitive across the country. Police have been put on alert where there are chances of clashes,” he added.
The police chief has asked all not to believe in any rumour without scrutinizing, he said requesting journalists to inform senior police official if they are restricted from entering the polling centres to perform their professional duties.
