CHITTAHONG, Jan 5, 2018 (BSS) – Awami League (AL) and its associate organizations today celebrated Victory Day for Democracy through various programmes in the port city.

Hundreds of leaders and activists of AL and its associate organizations gathered on city’s Shahid Minar premises marking the third anniversary of January-5 general election (Victory Day for Democracy), as it helped continuing the constitutional process.

Acting city unit AL President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury led a huge rally and presided over a discussion meeting while Chittagong city Mayor A J M Nasir Uddin, AL leader Khurshed Alam Sujan, CDA Chairman Abdus Salam and Advocate Iftakher Saimul among others addressed the function on the occassion.

Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury said that Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina not only filled the constitutional void but also protected the country’s democracy by holding the 10th general election on January 5 in 2014.

He blasted BNP-Jammat ally for their widespread violence, vandalism, killing, anarchy and creating panic in their bid to install an unconstitutional government by thwarting the national polls.

City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin said people of the country would never forget BNP led ally’s nefarious game playing with the bloods of the masses. He called upon BNP to come to the path of democracy and participate in the next general election.
