Writ seeking cancellation of Farooque’s candidacy scrapped
DHAKA, Dec 26, 2018 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today scrapped a writ which
challenged Election Commission’s (EC’s) decision allowing nomination paper of
veteran actor Akbar Hossain Pathan, better known as Farooque.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md
Khairul Alam binned the writ, saying the plea was ‘not pressed’.
Bangladesh Jatiya Party candidate Andalib Rahman Partha, who is contesting
from the same Dhaka-17 constituency like Farooque, had filed the writ.
Advocate Ahsanul Karim moved the writ for Partha, while Attorney General
Mahbubey Alam, aided by deputy attorney general Motahar Hossain Saju, stood
for the state.
