DHAKA, Dec 24, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid and his spouse Rashida Khanam will host a reception for the members of the Christian community in Bangabhaban tomorrow noon on the occasion of the Christmas Day.
The President will also exchange greetings with the Christian priests and the country’s eminent personalities as well as people at the Bangabhaban marking the Christmas Day, a Bangabhaban spokesman told BSS this evening.
The Christian community will celebrate Christmas Day in Bangladesh tomorrow with festivity commemorating the birthday of Jesus Christ as elsewhere in the world.
The Christians of different groups will celebrate the festival amid festivity and religious fervour by offering special prayers, illuminating churches, installing makeshift Christmas trees at homes and places of worships and missions.
The spokesman said Cardinal of Bangladesh Cardinal Patrick D’Rozario, ambassadors and representatives from different foreign missions, distinguished persons of the Christian community, religious leaders and professionals will join the reception.
The reception programme will start at about 12 noon tomorrow, where he will deliver a speech greeting the people of Christian community as well as countrymen.
A Christmas tree was set up with candles lit in the President palace. A group of singers will perform the Christmas carol at the reception.
President Abdul Hamid will cut a Christmas cake along with members of the Christian community on the occasion.
