DHAKA, Dec 24, 2018 (BSS) – The Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul
Huda today said the army deployment will help bringing confidence of voters
in the 11th parliamentary elections slated for December 30.

“The voters’ confidence will boost with the deployment of army in the
upcoming polls…And that is the main purpose for the army deployment,” he
said newsmen after a mock-voting session using Electronic Voting Machine
(EVM) at Residential Model School and College playground today.

Calling upon all the political parties to take part in the upcoming
parliamentary election keeping violence and internal dispute aside, he urged
all to focus on electoral campaigns for a peaceful as well as successful
election.

He said the army will undertake any kinds of responsibilities under ‘Aid-
to-the-Civil- Power’ function to maintain public order and ensure internal
security.

He also said the armed forces will carry out drives to combat any untoward
situation as per the need during the election time.

Mentioning that EVM will be used only at six centres, he said, “We had no
doubt regarding EVM use. As political parties have already raised their
objection regarding the use of EVM system in the polls….we are using a few
number of EVMs as a pilot project in the election.”

He said EVM will be mainly managed by the EC officials, adding that
trained officers from army will assist the polling officials at the voting
centres where EVM will be used.

Referring to the the training programme which is going on centering the
polls, he said everyone is well trained.

“Officials concerned know very well how to use EVM over counting votes
after the end of the voting,” he added.
