Sound animal health stressed for boosting livestock sector
RAJSHAHI, Jan 4, 2018 (BSS)- Veterinary scientists and researchers here urged the service providers to reach the livestock related necessary services to the grassroots growers for boosting the animal resources, particularly cattle and goat farming.
The speakers said necessary services like production, primary treatment, deworming, vaccination and farm management should be given on priority basis to boost animal health.
They were conducting a daylong vaccination programme of livestock animals including cattle, goats and birds at Meherchandi village under Motiher Police Station in the city yesterday.
Bangladesh Livestock Society (BLS) organized the programme in association with Intern Doctors of Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Rajshahi University.
More than 500 cattle, goat and birds were vaccinated free of cost to protect those from foot and mouth diseases in the cold-stricken village.
RU teachers Prof Khalequzzaman and Dr Rasheduzzaman and BLS President Prof Jalal Uddin Sarder and its General Secretary Dr Hemayetul Islam addressed the programme as resource persons.
Prof Khalequzzaman stressed the need for uplifting the livestock sector for food security, self-employment and poverty reduction. He also called for due importance on adopting modern technology, promotion of high yielding varieties and farmers training to overcome the crisis.
Animal resources could be developed through strengthening the economic management. Information, specialised knowledge and research are needed. All concerned should come forward for flourishing the animal resource sector.
Contribution of the livestock sector is immense in terms of meeting up the protein deficiency and socio economic development and said there is no alternative to elevate the sector.
Besides, large-scale farming of fodder could further develop the livestock sector to contribute immensely in fulfilling the protein deficiency in the country.
Capacity building of the service providers and market assessment is very important to boost the advice and inputs services to the producers.
