DHAKA, Dec 18, 2018 (BSS) – President M Abdul Hamid today asked the judges and others concerned to ensure hassle-free justice for the litigants, including the poor ones, within the shortest possible time.
“It’s people’s fundamental right to get justice . . . There is nothing to show kindness or sympathy to the justice-seekers,” he said in a written statement which was read out by Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif of High Court division in a function at the Supreme Court Judges’ Complex here on the occasion of Bangladesh Supreme Day 2018.
The head of the state said the number of different cases is on the rise and the judges should be more vigilant and cordial in dealing with those as “trial is for people; but people are not for trial”.
He said, “The judges should take care so that no justice-seeker gets harassed for taking the copy of case-verdicts. You have to ensure that the poor litigants can also get justice within the shortest possible time.”
Abdul Hamid also stressed on increasing the number of judges and their opportunities, saying, “The incumbent government firmly believes in full freedom of judiciary and enhancement of all sorts of facilities for them (judges).”
The President said the whole nation expects the judges would ensure rule of law and justice by utilizing their latent and thoughts and being liable to the country, its people and the holy constitution.
President Hamid observed that judiciary witnessed dynamism in court management due to the blessings of Information Technology (IT) during this government.
“The Supreme Court in the meantime introduced online cause list and online bail information management. People are now getting benefits from these,” he added.
The President asked the judiciary to introduce “e-Court System” which would help bring a revolutionary change for quick disposal of cases.
“All activities since filing of the case should be preserved in the digital system,” Hamid added.
The President asked the three state organs to work in unison giving priority to the welfare of the country and its people.
“There is no alternative to coordination among the three organs – judiciary, executive and legislature – to ensure the country’s overall development,” he observed.
Abdul Hamid, who was a lawyer, recalled the contribution of lawyers in handling the cases and said there may not be a fair trial or judgment without the assistances of lawyers.
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, judges of SC’s both divisions and Attorney General Mahabubey Alam, among others, were present.
