Elect AL again upholding spirit of liberation war: Citizens

DHAKA, Dec 17, 2018 (BSS) – Prominent citizens of the country here today
urged the country’s people to elect Sheikh Hasina in the national poll again
upholding the spirit of liberation war.

The speakers made the comments at a roundtable discussion “Towards the
golden jubilee of liberation through the path of victory in 1971” at CIRDAP
auditorium in the capital.

A group of eminent personalities including academics, professionals and
interfaith leaders participated in the discussion as an election campaign
promoting the idea of secularism, communal harmony and the spirit of
liberation war.

Cultural personality Pijush Bandapadhya, convenor of Sampriti
Bangladesh presided over the function while former Bangladesh Bank Governor
Dr Atiur Rahman gave the keynote speech.

While addressing the programme, Dr Atiur Rahman, also a professor at Dhaka
University said that people should understand for which political party to
vote to maintain the development activities that are underway in the country.

“We want to celebrate the golden jubilee of our great liberation war victory
as well as the 100-year birth anniversary of the Father of the Nation
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina ,”
said Atiur.

Chief Editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Abul Kalam Azad said
that Bangladesh became a role model of development to the world under the
leadership of Sheikh Hasina.

“Through the victory of Sheikh Hasina in the national poll in 2008, the youth
of our country proved that they uphold the spirit of liberation war. The
Prime Minister already digitalised the country and people of all strata
including a rickshaw puller gets opportunity from it,” he added.

UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan emphasized the significance of the
youth vote – in the upcoming election as it can determine a party’s victory.

“Among the total of 10 crore voters, 2.5 crore are youth aged 18 to 26.
One crore 21 lakhs and 77 thousand new voters will cast their votes for the
first time. They will determine who will come to power, “said Mannan.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University
Professor Kamrul Hasan Khan, Dhaka University’s professor Chandranath Poddar,
Secrity expert Major General (Retired) A K Mohammed Ali Sikder, Secular
activist Arima Dutta, among others, spoke.
