Degitisation brings multinational companies in Benapole port
DHAKA, Dec 17, 2018 (BSS) – Many multinational companies have started using again the ‘Benapole Port’ for trade as the checking and discharging of goods has become easier and faster in the port due to its digital services.
As per National Board of Revenue, the government has installed modern scanner machine, international standard check post and mobile scanner for customs house in the country’s largest land port.
Talking to BSS, Benapole Customs House Commissioner Belal Hossain Chowdhury said export through the Benapole Port has increased by two times in the first four months of the fiscal 2018-19 compared to the first four months of the previous fiscal 2017-18.
He said NBR has automated Benapole customs house through ‘Asycuda World’ for creating transparency in calculation of custom. The government has formed powerful information risk management (IRM) team to stop revenue evasion and accelerate the discharging of goods in the port, he added.
“As per the Customs Law, at least 10 percent imported goods should be checked physically. Now, 15 percent of the imported goods have been checked physically in the port which was not possible earlier,” he added.
