Chunnu urges RMG workers to re-join by Dec 17

DHAKA, December 15, 2018 (BSS)-State Minister for Labour and
Employment Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu today urged the garment workers to
resume their duties by December 17.

“Any disparity in the new wage structure of the garments sector would be
resolved within January next through discussion with all stakeholders of the
sector,” he said while addressing a crisis management core committee meeting
at Bangladesh Secretariat here.

the state minister also assured that basic pay in any grade would not be
reduced in the new wage structure but unfortunately concern created among the
workers of the sector after publishing the gazette of the new wage structure.

Following the concern, unrest has been spread among the workers in
Narayanganj, Gazipur and Ashulia areas, he said adding that all confusion
would be removed after getting the wage for the month of January next year.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Secretary to the ministry Afroza
Khan, President of Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters
Association (BGMEA) Md Siddiqur Rahman, Inspector General of Inspection
Directorate of Factories and Institutions Shamsuzzaman Bhuiyan, Director
General (DG) of Labour Directorate Shibnath Ray, Director General (DG) of
Industrial Police Abdus Salam and leaders of different workers unions.
