5th anniversary of killing 4 AL men in Nilphamari observed
NILPHAMARI, Dec 14, 2018 (BSS) – The 5th anniversary of killing four leaders and workers of Awami League and attack on the motorcade of the then AL lawmaker and incumbent Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was observed in the district today.
Marking the anniversary, a mourning meeting and Doa mahfil was observed at Ramganj High School ground in the district this afternoon.
President of Tupamari Union Krishak League Khorshed Alam Chowdhury, organising secretary of union Juba League Farhad Hossain and his brother Juba League activist Murad Hossain Shah and AL activist Liton Hossain Lebu were killed in the attack by Jamaat-BNP activists on the motorcade of Noor at Ramganj Bazaar under Tupamari union on December 14 in 2013.
Attack was carried out when Noor was returning to the district town after taking stock of the situation following the rampage unleashed by Jamaat activists two days ago on December 12, a day after Jamaat Assistant Secretary General Abdul Quader Molla was hanged for his 1971 war crimes.
Addressing the meeting today, Noor termed the incident as a very painful one in his political career.
“I never did politics of vengeance. I never lodged any cases against anyone for political vengeance,” he said.
Noor said: “You everyone knows who carried out the attack. But I don’t why the attack was launched. We do not want any killing in politics. This kind of killing incident should not be recurred.”
Chaired by Upazila AL Vice-President Nazrul Islam Shah, the meeting was addressed by Tupimari union unit of AL President Paresh Chandra Saker, Union Jubo League President Abul Kashem Shah and General Secretary Mashiur Rahman, among others.
Earlier, Noor paid tributes to graves of the four deceased and met with their family members.
After the mourning meeting, the AL leader joined street rallies for election campaign at Tupimari Bazar and Gasbari area of Nilphamari town.
