DHAKA, Dec 14, 2018 (BSS) – Jatiya Oikyafront Convener and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain today threatened reporters when he was asked about his position on the Jamaat-e-Islami which openly opposed Bangladesh’s Liberation War in 1971.

“Think of the martyrs. Think of the martyrs. Just stop it, shut up (khamosh)! Which newspaper are you from? I will keep you in memory,” he told reporters when he was asked some questions on Jamaat after he paid tributes at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Memorial here this morning.

One of the reporters asked Dr Kamal why Jamaat, whose registration has been canceled by the Election Commission, is contesting the polls with the Jatiya Oikyafront.

Kamal said: “How much money have you got to ask such questions … Who paid you?”

Earlier, replying to another question Dr Kamal said: “We have come to pay homage on the occasion of the Martyred Intellectuals Day. Thousands of people embraced martyrdom for the country’s independence.”

“We should keep intact the independence and make it meaningful for all. This independence is not for those who want to attain their own interest rather the independence is for all. We are working for a repression-free beautiful society.”

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rob and Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trustee Dr Zafarullah Chowdhury were present on the occasion, among others.

Last year, Dr Kamal Hossain was heavily criticized for making an indecent remark on Attorney General Mahbubey Alam at a hearing at the court of the chief justice.

The senior lawyer made the indecent remarks on the state’s chief law officer while the court on May 18 last year was hearing a case involving 138 doctors who were recruited at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
