Rangpur people pay rich tribute to martyred intellectuals

RANGPUR, Dec 14, 2018 (BSS) – The people of Rangpur today observed the
Martyred Intellectuals’ Day paying rich tribute to martyred intellectuals
with a fresh demand of completing trial of war criminals, including killers
of martyred intellectuals.

Observance of the day began in the morning with placing wreaths at the
Central Shaheed Minar and monuments of the martyrs, hoisting of black flag
and national flag at half-mast atop all public and private buildings in the
city. Different political parties, socio-cultural and professional
organisations and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes
to mark the day.

The programmes included wearing black badges, observance of one-minute
silence, lighting of candles, placing wreaths at mass graves, doa mahfil,
special munajats seeking divine blessings for departed souls of the martyred
intellectuals and discussions.

Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies, JASOD, Workers Parry,
Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal, Communist Party of Bangladesh, Sector
Commanders Forum, Rangpur Sahittya- Sangskritik Parishad, Sommilito
Sangskritik Jote, Rangapur Sahittya Parishad, Udichhi Shilpi Gosthi,
Shilpokola Academy, Begum Rokeya University, Carmichael College, Rangpur
Medical College and other organisations and institutions observed the day.

The district and city units of AL and its associate bodies started
observance of the day with placing wreaths at portrait of Father of the
Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman followed by other programmes
including discussion at district AL office.

General Secretary of district AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Raju, its Publicity
and Publication Secretary Rosy Rahman, Office Secretary Tauhidur Rahman
Tutul, city AL President Shafiur Rahman Shafi, its General Secretary Tushar
Kanti Mandal, General Secretary of District Mohila Awami League Advocate
Jakia Sultana Choity, addressed the discussion.

The speakers said the Pakistani occupation army with their collaborator Al-
badars, Al-shams and razakars killed intellectuals as a part of deep-rooted
conspiracy to make the nation talentless at dawn of the independence in 1971.
