All-round Mosaddek steers Bangladesh to semis

DHAKA, Dec 9, 2018 (BSS)-An all-round performance came from Mosaddek
Hossain saw Bangladesh U-23 team moved semi-final of the Emerging Teams Cup
after beating Pakistan by a huge margin of 84 runs held on Sunday in Karachi,
Pakistan.

After a dismal performance against UAE in the opening match, Bangladesh
came back strongly on the winning row and this time against the mighty
Pakistan courtesy of an all-rounder performance from the skipper and
disciplined bowling from the bowlers.

Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh openers Mizanur Rahman
(29) and Zakir Hasan (69) gave a good start contributing 48 runs for the
opening stand.

Man in form Zakir scored yet another fifty before fell to Muhammad Musa.

Nazmul Hossain Shanto (49) missed his well deserved fifty short of one
run. But it was the skipper Mosaddek, who dominated the bowlers and remained
at the crease till the end and scored with a magnificent knock of 85 runs off
just 74 balls hitting 3 boundaries and four sixers.

Yasir Ali also chipped with a brilliant knock of 56 off 46 proving ample
support to his captain and eventually steered Bangladesh to post a daunting
total of 309 runs from their allotted 50 overs.

Khushdil Shah was the pick of Pakistan bowler as he claimed three
Bangladesh’s wickets conceding 48 runs. He was well supported by Muhammad
Musa who bagged two wickets for 55 runs.

In reply, Pakistan found the chase stiff and eventually all out for 225
46.5 overs.

Nayeem Hasan struck early on Pakistan innings removing Ali Imran (3) in
his 2nd over. He went onto picked two more wickets and conceded only 36 runs
in his 10 overs.

Shoriful Islam grabbed the big wicket of Zeeshan Malik, who missed his
half century for only three runs. Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan was also
looking good and on his way to play a big innings, but the Bangladesh captain
sent back to danger man Rizwan for 46.

Khushdil Shah offered some resistance playing entertaining knock of
61in the middle but Shafiul Islam brought Bangladesh in match removing the
well-set batsman to finish all hopes for Pakistan.

Nayeem Hasan was the most successful bowler as he captured three
Pakistan’s wickets for 36 runs while Mosaddek Hossain and Shafiul Islam
shared two wickets each giving away 32 and41 runs respectively.

Mosaddek Hossain of Bangladesh was named the player of the match for his
all-round performance.
