Sustainable social harmony stressed for national advancement

RANGPUR, Dec 07, 2018 (BSS) – Government officials and civil society members at a views-sharing meeting here have stressed on sustainable social harmony and brotherhood for further accelerating national development.

They specially called upon local public representatives and guardians for making the young generations aware of severe consequences of drug abuse, terrorism and militancy and properly guiding them to become patriotic citizens to serve the nation in future.

‘Pollishree’, an NGO, with assistance of Oxfam Bangladesh organised the meeting for the youths with the government officials and public representatives at Zila Parisahd conference room on Thursday afternoon.

Members of eight Youth Cubs of the city, government officials, NGO executives, religious leaders and civil society members participated in the meeting moderated by Project coordinator of ‘Pollishree’ Shahnaz Pervin.

Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul Amin Mian attended the meeting as the chief guest with Programme Manager of ‘Pollishree’ Selim Reza in the chair.

Principal of Rangpur Government Teachers’ Training College Professor Lutfar Rahman, Sadar Upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby, City Councilor Nasima Akhter, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Services Abdur Razzaque, Lecturer of Begum Rokeya University Kuntola Chowdhury, District Education Officer Roksana Begum and Upazila Youth Development Officer Tahmina Shirin, addressed as special guests.

President of the district unit of Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Oikko Parisahd Banamali Paul, Advocate Rezina Yasmin, writer SM Eti, Moulana Md Shahjalal Islam, freedom fighter Enamul hafiz Bachchu, NGO executive Nafisa Sultana also spoke. The speakers discussed negative inspects of drug abuse and called upon the young generations to abstain from drugs and remain alert against some vested quarters involved in misinterpreting Islam, the religion of peace.

The chief guest urged the participants, including youths, to work unitedly in launching a vigorous social movement against drug abuse, militancy and terrorism for ensuring sustainable peace in the society to further accelerate national development.
