BCB XI win practice match as Tamim, Soumya hit ton

DHAKA, Dec 6, 2018 (BSS)-Brilliant centuries came from Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar saw Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI beat visiting West Indies by 51 runs in Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method in the lone practice match held on Thursday at BKSP ground no 3 in Savar.

Chasing a massive winning target of 332 runs set by West Indies, Bangladesh, rode on Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar’s brilliant centuries, scored 314 for 6 in 41 overs as bad light forced to stop the play.

The two Tigers openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes gave Bangladesh a solid start contributing 81 runs for the opening stand before Roston Chase broike the partnership sending back to Kayes for 27 runs.

Tamim Iqbal who blasted 73-ball off 107 runs, hitting 13 boundaries and four over boundaries in is come back match, again paired another 114-runs with Soumya Sarkar for the second wicket stand before the southpaw opener fell victim of Roston Chase.

After the departure of Tamim, Soumya Sarkar took the lead role as he continued is prolific form smashing an unbeaten 83-ball off 103 with the help of seven boundaries and six towering over boundaries while skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza was remained unbeaten with 22 from the other end.

Roston Chase and Devendra Bishoo were the most successful bowlers as the dau picked up two BCB XI’s wickets giving away 57 and 81 runs respectively.

Earlier, West Indies have come out of their shell ahead of the limited-overs leg of their Bangladesh tour, as they posted a massive total of 331 for 8 from their allotted 50 overs against the BCB XI, after the visitors won the toss and elected to bat first on the flat wicket.

The two Caribbean openers – Shai Hope and Kieran Powell – gave West Indies a flying start contributing 101 runs for the opening stand before Nazmul Islam brought the first breakthrough removing Kieran Powell for 43 runs.

The other opener Shai Hope continued his onslaught as he shared another 58-run stand with Darren Bravo to strengthen the foundation laid by the opening stand.

Mehedi Hasan Rana broke the partnership by removing Bravo for 24 runs shortly before Nazmul struck once again to send Shai Hope back to the dressing room for 81 runs.

Middle orer batsman Shimron Hetmeyer, Fabian Allen, and Roston Chase then added some quick runs, while Marlon Samuels and Rovman Powell failed to make any impact.

Rostn Chase made an unbeaten quick knock of 65 sharing two vital stand with Allen and Hetmeyer, both of whom were dismissed by Rubel Hossain.

Allen smashed 48 runs off 32 balls laced with eight boundaries and one over boundary to help the visitors to set a challenging total for West Indies.

Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Islam and Mehedi Hasan Rana shared two wickets conceding 55, 61 and 65 runs respectively.

West Indies will play the first ODI against their Bangladesh counterpart schedule to be held on Sunday (December 9) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur.
