Rajshahi students get textbooks in festive mood

RAJSHAHI, Jan 1, 2018 (BSS)- Primary and secondary level students have started getting new textbooks in festive mood in the city and other adjacent districts today, the first day of the new year 2018.

Book distribution ceremony has been arranged in every school to handover books among the students.

In Rajshahi city, divisional, metropolitan and district level high officials launched the book distribution activities formally at a function held at PTI Primary School.

Fazley Hossain Badsha, MP, attended and addressed the Rajshahi divisional, metropolis and district level National Textbook Festival-2017 ceremony as chief guest with Abul Khayer, Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Primary Education, in the chair.

Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Aminul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Helal Mahmud Sharif, Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury and District Primary Education Officer Nafisha Begum spoke as special guests.

Chief Guest Lawmaker Badsha said the present government has been distributing free books to the school students aimed at ensuring education for all to free the nation from the curse of illiteracy.

Meanwhile, Rajshahi Education Board Model School and College organized a colorful book distribution function at its premises with principal Taifur Rahman in the chair.

Former Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and Controller of Examination of Rajshahi Education Board Prof Tarun Kumar Sarker spoke on the occasion.

DPEO Nafisha Begum told BSS that required number of books were sent to all the government and registered non-government schools in the district for distribution among the students.

” The students were seen very happy after getting new books on the first day of the year and we have kept five percent books as buffer stock for meeting any deficit and for the newly admitted students,”she added. Divisional Deputy Director of Department of Primary Education, Abul Khayer, told BSS that around 24.86 lakh students of 8,590 institutions will get 1.16 crore books in eight districts under Rajshahi division.

Meanwhile, more than 22.06 lakh students of 4,956 secondary level institutions will get 2.89 crore textbooks in the division, said Dr Shormin Ferdous Chowdhury, Deputy Director of Department of Secondary and Higher Education.
