DHAKA, Dec 6, 2018 (BSS) – AM Rafik, elder brother of Sultana Kamal, eldest daughter-in-law of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital here last night.
“AM Rafik, also the treasurer of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust, breathed his last at about 8:50 pm at the hospital,” Neherin Mostafa, niece of the deceased, told BSS.
An advisor of Dhaka South City Awami League, Rafik had been suffering from various ailments, she said.
Rafik was childless and his wife passed away 10 years back, Neherin added.
He was buried at the family graveyard at Matuail in the capital after Asr prayers today.
Sultana Kamal, a celebrated athlete and wife of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Bangabandhu, was assassinated along with most of the family members of Bangabandhu on the fateful night of August 15 in 1975.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the residence of AM Rafik at Shahjahanpur in the capital this morning to console the bereaved family members.
The premier stayed there for about one hour, talked to the family members and consoled them. She prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.
