BRCS observes Int’l Volunteer Day

DHAKA, Dec 05, 2018 (BSS) – Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BRCS) today celebrated the International Volunteer Day-2018 amid various programmes across the country including its headquarters in the capital.

The theme of the day was ‘Thanks Volunteer’, said a press release.

To mark the day, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has chalked out elaborate programmes including distribution of leaflets among the city pedestrians and providing voluntary service to the traffic police at city’s two important points — Maghbazar and Bangla Motor — for creating awareness on road crossing among the people.

Besides, hand washing programme was held at three city schools, city slums at Tejgaon railway and Pearabagh, children art competition at two disabled schools and distribution of gifts were among the programmes.

In addition to this, the district red crescent units also have taken various programmes at the respective districts marking the day.

The programme of the day was inaugurated at the headquarters of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society at Maghbazar this morning by releasing balloons.

BRCS’s treasurer Advocate Towhidur Rahman, managing board member Lutfor Rahman Chowdhury Helal, Miss Razia Sultana Luna, Rabindra Mohon Saha, Surendra Kumar Regmi, Programme Coordinator, IFRC, country office, Bangladesh, BRCS’s Secretary General M Feroz Salauddin and Deputy Secretary General M Rafiqul Islam addressed at the function.

Currently Bangladesh Red Crescent Society has about 7,20,000 youth members and volunteers across the country.
